UNITED KINGDOM

The UK prides itself on its long and outstanding tradition in animation production. The first example dates back to 1899, involving animated matches wired together as human beings for a patriotic call to action. Behind those internationally renowned animation figures such as TV series “Charlie and Lola” (Tiger Aspect Productions) and “Shaun the Sheep” (Aardman Animations), there is an industry that generates $70bn of revenue worldwide a year. There are more than 300 animation companies, employing some 4,700 people in the UK. Many of the UK´s animation studios offer internationally reputed services in a wide range of specialities and particularly those to do with short films such as “Wallace & Gromit” of worldwide fame and also computer generated visual effects such as Double Negative and its contribution to the Harry Potter films. The numerous international prizes awarded to the UK animation industry is a testimony to its excellence.

The UK is truly proud of being the Guest Country in this year’s edition of the Animabasauri / Animabasque Festival and through UK Trade & Investment, the government organisation that helps UK-based companies, including animation ones to succeed in the global economy and assists overseas companies to bring their high quality investment to the UK, wishes the organisers every success.
